REPORTS FROM THE VARIOUS COMMITTEES

1. Memorial Committee
No report was given.

2. Finance Committee
Chairman Matt Alexander dispersed several copies of the current finances.
Deposits: Two Deposits, one for $100 and one for $200 were made since the last meeting.
Alexander pointed out that the Foundation has slightly less than $53,865.38. He purchased and delivered a tape recorder for the Committee at a cost of $44.92.
It was moved and seconded to accept the report.

3. Fundraising Committee (the November GALA)
Beth Gilmer, chair of the Fundraising Committee was not present; Ed Kennedy reported that he had not gotten a reply from John Berry in response to Ed’s message related to the performance of the Berry Band at the November GALA, but he felt that Berry would at least sing a few songs at our GALA since he will be in the vicinity around that time.

4. Publicity Committee
Miss Vinnie reported that she had written an article for the paper about the 4 x 8 foot digital image of the actual memorial that will be constructed and donated by SignWorx (cost estimated at $800). Plans are to make a public presentation of the sign on the Memorial Site when finished in about 2 weeks. A date will be set for the placement at the site. This visible display at the site that will be visible from Hwy 53 might encourage donations.

5. Old Business (bids for the GALA meal)
Chairman Davison reported that he had received 3 bids for the meal (300 people)
a) Holiday Inn $9,822.60 or $32.14 per person
b) Ed’s son’s Catering Business $9,396.29 or $31.32 per person
c) Tom Little cost of food only or $10.00 person (cost of preparation donated)

After some discussion, the group decided that the meal would be more than the average meat & potatoes and would be compatible with the charge of $100 per ticket. Chairman Davison would go back to Tom Little and request an amount that would include the food preparation and a professional serving service. The date to accept a bid was July 27, 2007.

Chairman Davison also contacted Senator Bill Cowsert to offer an invitation to former Governor Zell Miller as the featured speaker. Senator will be in touch with the Chairman in the near future. Also, Rep Bob Smith will make a contact to invite him.

John Gentry and Jeff Benko will look at the possibility of inviting the military jazz ensemble from the Navy School to perform background music.

6. new Business
Chairman Davison appointed John Gentry as Chairman of the newly formed Program Committee since he had agreed to be the Master of Ceremony on the night of the GALA and John requested that Jeff Benko and Kate McDaniel work with him to plan the program and design and print the program agenda.

Kate McDaniel suggested a project for the remembrance of our fallen military that she called Circle of Memory. Names of all those who have died in wars since WWI from Oconee would be stenciled on small white wooden crosses and placed in a circle around a large US Flag. The county would construct the crosses and volunteers would be sought to stencil the names. The display would be erected on a special day somewhere in the county that would be visible to the greatest number of people.

The group liked the idea, but decided to consider having it completed and displayed on Veterans Day or July Fourth, 2008. This project would not be a fund raiser but rather a remembrance and could be updated and used year after year.

Chairman Davison suggested that the memorial committee needed a professional to actually build the memorial – someone with experience. Should the committee hire someone? No decision was made.

Ed McConnell handed out information from the Department of Veterans on Burial & Plot-Interment Allowance to each member.

There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 8:35 pm.
