Vinnie Williams suggested that when the Veteran Memorial is completed at the Oconee Community Center, Memorial Day celebrations can be held there each year.

2. Finance Committee
Chairman Matt Alexander dispersed a copy of the finances.
Deposits: Two $10 Deposits were made since the last meeting.
The Chairman pointed out that the Foundation has slightly less than $54,000.
It was moved and seconded to accept the report
Alexander distributed suggested Foundation stationary, letterhead with symbols of the various fighting forces with Army Logo first in the line-up.

3. Fundraising Committee (the November GALA)
Ed Kennedy reported that he had called John Berry to invite his band to perform at the GALA, but was unable to get him on the phone. Kennedy also suggested his son to do the catering.

Former Georgia Governor Zell Miller was suggested as the keynote speaker at the last meeting, but has not been contacted yet.

John Breffle agreed to be the auctioneer for the live auction.

John Gentry, a veteran of the Iraq War and a member of the Foundation has agreed to be the Master of Ceremonies.

A discussion ensued concerning a B-B-Q to raise funds for the Memorial. Pete Shelnutt said he and the VFW might take the lead and he suggested that b-b-q chicken would be appropriate and cheaper than pork b-b-q. Vinnie Williams agreed to contact the Watkinsville Mayor to reserved Harris Shoals Park for a date sometime in August.

It was suggested that a rifle or an auto be considered as a raffle item. The Foundation will have 2 valuable WWII prints to auction so far. Nothing was decided at this meeting.

Old Business
A decision was made at the last meeting to purchase a tape recorder to record the meeting proceedings. Another vote was taken for Treasurer Matt Alexander to purchase one by the next meeting in June.

New Business
John Gentry, Director of Oconee Parks & Recreation said that the Memorial site in the Oconee Community Center had been cleared and leveled. It is now ready for placement of the Memorial.

It was suggested that a sign marking the site as the future location of the Veterans Memorial be placed there. Athens Sign Company or SignWorx be approached as the vendor to build and erect a sign large enough to observe from Hwy 53. No one was chosen to make the contact although Gentry might the logical person to do so.
