I. Memorial Committee Report:
II. Finance Committee Report:
We now have 4 accounts at the Oconee State Bank (the 2 CDs, Regular Checking and the Automatic Donation Account) and 1 Account at North GA Bank. Larry D needs to go to bank and sign card to write checks on the newest account.
Jeff had received a $50 donation and Rotary had given $100 for a total of $150 deposited since last meeting.
III. Fundraising Committee Report:
Beth G reported that Kate M and Ed K had contacted Peggy Holcomb to get advice on how to coordinate a “gala” as a fundraiser.
Kate reported the results with a handout outlining tentative plans for preparation. Comments were received from the Committee members present. The general opinion was that the plan needed revising due to some very ambitious goals that probably were unrealistic. No one volunteered or was charged with the responsibility to re-do the plans.
A motion was made by Bill G and seconded by Ed Kennedy to hold a gala on November 8, 2007 at the Civic Center. Kate was charged with making reservations for the “gala” on Thursday, November 8, 2007 from 5 to 10 pm at the Oconee Civic Center before the next meeting. She was to find out the amount of the deposit so that Matt could write a check on the day the date is locked in for the event.
Also under Fundraising, Jeff B gave the members the latest development concerning the WWII Shaw Painting. The artist had given the Committee another painting from his vault that was not framed (stored in a tube). The Committee now is in possession of 3 paintings all of the same subject, but of different values from $295 to $2,500.
David W made motion to accept the one that had been kept in a vault; Bill G seconded and the motion was approved unanimously. Jeff B will again contact the artist to return the other 2 paintings. By general consensus, the group decided to make the painting an item in a Silent Auction held at the gala.
Jim A will check with a vendor for the printing of envelopes for mailing letters with letterhead of Veterans Memorial Foundation logo to potential donors. Larry asked Matt to design a logo for the mask head.
Beth G reported that she had a list of 20 people interested in the signature bricks. The group discussed the size and cost of the bricks but made no decision although $100 was suggested as a price for a 6” X 12” granite brick. About $40 of that would be used for the name inscription.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 8:10 pm.
