REPORTS FROM THE VARIOUS COMMITTEES

1. Memorial Committee
There was some discussion about the Oconee VFW 2492 making a donation to the Foundation. The first impression was that it would be a significant sum but since was learned that it would be much smaller. No action taken.

2. Finance Committee
John Roberts gave a check to Chairman Davison which was deposited in the Mars Hill Oconee Branch Bank.

Chairman Davison received a call from a person representing a charity who wanted to make a donation of $500 and wanted the address so that he could mail it in. The subject of a vet memorial payroll account came up which this committee does not have. No one could explain why this was an item since this committee would not have reason for a payroll account.

3. Fundraising Committee (November GALA)
Beth Gilmer, chair of the Fundraising Committee was not present. A general discussion ensued concerning last minute details related to the GALA dinner. More under Old Business.

4. Publicity Committee
No report

5. Program Committee
No report

6. Old Business
Chairman Davison reported that Former Gov Zell Miller will not be able to be our Guest Speaker. Bob Smith is in the process of contacting Gov Sonny Perdue. No answer yet. Also , General ________________________can still be contacted.

Chicken B-B-Q. After some discussion about the late date for a B-B-Q and with Mr Pete Shelnut’s consent, motion was made and passed to postpone to a later date.

GALA Meal Vendor. Motion was made and passed to select Tom Little as the caterer for the meal. Tom had agreed to charge “at cost” to him if the committee would take care of the serving and the cleanup. The menu would consist of prime rib, appropriate vegetables, a salad, bread, drink and desert. The Committee or the Civic Center would have to furnish the china & utensils. The suggestion was made that Athens Young Life Organization members might be asked to do the serving. Chairman Davison agreed to meet with Tom Little to work out the details before the next meeting in October.

Dress for the GALA. After receiving a suggestion from member John Gentry last month related to the appropriate dress for the occasion, the members decided that coat & tie for the gentlemen and “high casual” for the ladies would be appropriate. A motion was made and passed.

Tape stopped at this point.

Meeting adjourned.

These minutes were transcribed from a taped recording of the meeting.
